A dispute over petrol prices at a fuel station in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior escalated into a brutal attack late Tuesday night, leaving a 26-year-old petrol pump worker critically injured after he was allegedly set on fire.

The incident occurred around 10 pm when the victim, identified as Akash Sengar, got into an argument with three young men who had arrived at the petrol pump on a Bullet motorcycle. Police said the altercation over fuel rates quickly turned violent.

According to investigators, one of the accused allegedly poured petrol on Akash and set him ablaze using a lighter, NDTV reported.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as the worker, engulfed in flames, screamed for help.

His father, Ramchandra Sengar, who works as a security guard at a nearby tour and travel office, rushed to rescue him but also suffered burn injuries to his legs.

Both father and son were taken by locals to the burn ward of Jayarogya Hospital. Police said Akash has sustained around 37 per cent burns and remains in critical condition.

An FIR has been registered in the case. Police have arrested two accused, identified as Doli alias Anuj Gurjar and Sachin Gurjar, while a third accused, Arvind Chhavai, is absconding.

Officials said CCTV footage from the area is being examined and witnesses are being questioned to determine the exact sequence of events.
