Parliament Monsoon Session 2026 LIVE Updates: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to introduce the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, as the government pushes ahead with a packed legislative agenda during the Monsoon Session.
The Lower House will also resume consideration of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, with Union Minister Jitendra Singh moving that the proposed anti-paper leak legislation be taken up for consideration and passage.
The day’s proceedings are expected to witness a high-voltage political showdown, with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi scheduled to address the House around 12:30 pm, focusing specifically on the proposed anti-paper leak law and the government’s handling of recent examination controversies.
After six days of repeated disruptions over the NEET paper leak controversy, the Lok Sabha on Tuesday initiated a discussion on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill.
The Narendra Modi government has pitched the amendment as a decisive step to strengthen the legal framework against organised paper leak rackets by increasing penalties and ensuring faster prosecution of offenders. Initiating the debate, Jitendra Singh said the legislation reaffirms the government’s commitment to protecting students and safeguarding the credibility of India’s examination system.
However, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the Centre, accusing it of responding to agitating students with force instead of dialogue and urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “change his dil ka angle instead of camera angles” if he wishes to connect with India’s youth. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj defended the legislation, describing it as a transformative reform aimed at restoring trust in public examinations while accusing the opposition of displaying selective outrage.
