FIITJEE centres across Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh have shut down.
After FIITJEE shut down its coaching institutes in Noida and Ghaziabad, several parents in the institute’s Noida Sector 62 centre denounced the company through slogans. They also demanded the government’s intervention to get the management punished.
Satsang Kumar, a resident of Greater Noida said the institute’s Sector 62 centre was open till January 21 but was closed an hour before schedule, reported PTI. Several parents had deposited money for admission to the classes, however, they were left fuming after the centres closed their doors abruptly. More than 2,000 students studied at the centre, Kumar said.
The coaching centres were closed on Friday due to growing unrest between the faculty and the management over “ghost teaching and subsequent unpaid dues” for over the past six months. This unfolded in a mass faculty resignation at several centres prompting sudden closure of operations, leaving students in limbo at the peak time of preparation when entrance exams are around. According to FIITJEE’s website, it runs 73 centres across the country.
Mrinal, the father of a class 11 student said that he had deposited more than Rs 3 lakh in fees for his daughter for admission to the March session. “I submitted the entire fee, but suddenly I got this news of the closing of the centre,” he said adding that the closure shook him. He further demanded a refund of the amount, the news agency reported
The father of a class 10 student, Alok, who had paid the fees for an entire session is now planning to take legal action against the institute. “My son has a Board exam, but now this situation has come up. I have paid the entire fees for the course. They are spoiling the next generation’s future. We want some response from the institution and government so that our money and the future of our children can be saved. We are also planning to take legal action in this case,” he said.
Another parent, Avijit, who deposited Rs 1.5 lakh in advance for the July session for his son said the institute did not even issue any notice or communication regarding the closure beforehand.
FIITJEE Blames Managing Partners
The founder of FIITJEE DK Goyal along with his Chief Financial Officer Rajiv Babbar, Chief Operating Officer Manish Anand, and its Greater Noida branch head Ramesh Batlesh have been named in an FIR, a Noida Police spokesperson told the news agency.
However, FIITJEE denied allegations that many teachers left because of non-payment of salaries for months and attributed the situation to “a criminal conspiracy hatched by people with vested interests”.
“FIITJEE has not closed any centre as part of its own decision. Overnight desertion of the centre by the centre managing partner, along with the entire team, is the only reason for this force majeure type of condition,” the institute said in a statement.
The statement added that the present situation is “temporary” and “company officials are working to resume operations within a reasonable time.”
“Our legal team is taking appropriate action against the malicious prosecutions lodged against us,” it added.
The institute alleged that it was a “victim of exploitation” by managing partners, which worsened its financial situation. “Owing to mismanagement and exploitation by managing partners, FIITJEE’s financial situation worsened in January 2024. The group CFO (Chief Financial Officer) forecast that after six months, the company might run into an operational cash crunch,” it said.
