Uber India CEO Prabhjit Singh has resigned from his post. He will join the India operations of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPIT, as Country Managing Director (MD) in September. Prabhjit Singh will be the senior-most leader of OpenAI in India and will report to Kiran Mani, who was appointed Managing Director, Asia Pacific, OpenAI in March this year. Prabhjeet will handle the work of OpenAI in India OpenAI has said in a statement that Prabhjeet Singh will be responsible for the company’s consumer growth, enterprise adoption, partnerships, regulatory engagement and operations in India. His focus will be on building partnerships and supporting India’s larger AI ecosystem. They will also help consumers, businesses, institutions and government agencies benefit from AI. Prabhjeet Singh’s 10-year journey in Uber: Prabhjeet Singh, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIM Ahmedabad, was working as the President of Uber’s India and South Asia business till Friday. His departure from Uber India marks the end of his decade-long journey, during which he oversaw Uber’s growth and expansion across India. Prabhjeet joined Uber in August 2015 as General Manager, Head of Strategy. After this, in June 2020, he became the President and led the company’s business in this region. Before Uber, he was an associate partner at McKinsey & Company. Uber’s statement and future plans On Prabhjeet’s resignation, an Uber spokesperson said that India is one of the most important markets for Uber globally, and it is an important driver of innovation and long-term growth. The spokesperson said the strength of our business today reflects the excellent team and foundation that has been built over the years. We thank Prabhjeet for his leadership and lasting contributions throughout his decade-long journey with Uber. We are fully committed to the next phase of our growth in India. Uber has not yet announced a successor for the role, but the company is expected to develop its leadership transition plan in the coming weeks.
