Virender Sehwag’s son Aaryavir once again impressed in the second U19 ODI against Australia, but this time, he did it in a manner very different from his father. Playing in Rajkot, the youngster produced a patient 47 as India made a strong start after being asked to bat.
Unlike his father Virender, one of the most destructive openers the game has seen, Aaryavir was measured at the crease, taking his time against the Australian pace attack and helping India negotiate a tricky first 10 overs.
Aaryavir opened alongside captain Lakshya Raichandani as the pair put together 46 runs for the first wicket. The right-hander scored the bulk of the runs in the partnership, while also showing patience when Australia’s new-ball bowlers kept things tight.
Raichandani was eventually dismissed for 11 off 29 balls, bringing VK Vineeth to the crease. Aaryavir continued to bat with composure and the pair added more than 50 runs for the second wicket.
With nine boundaries to his name, Aaryavir moved to 47 and looked set for his maiden fifty in Youth ODIs. However, his innings came to an unfortunate end when a mix-up with Vineeth resulted in his run out, leaving him 3 runs short of the milestone.
Aaryavir had made a vastly different impression in the opening ODI of the series. With the match reduced to 20 overs per side because of rain, he came out attacking and scored 28 off 26 balls, including five boundaries, as India edged Australia by seven runs.
His second outing was a more controlled affair. Having survived the opening burst from the Australian quicks, Aaryavir gradually found his rhythm and kept India’s innings moving before his run-out brought an end to his stay.
VINEETH, YASHBARDHAN TAKE INDIA FORWARD
After Aaryavir’s dismissal, Vineeth continued to anchor the innings as India looked to build a big total. He was joined by vice-captain Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan, who had starred in the first ODI.
Yashbardhan once again played an aggressive innings, finding the boundary regularly as India accelerated in the latter stages. He was the only one to score a hundred (122 off 100), as India put up a big total of 341 runs in Rajkot.
While Yashbardhan hit a hundred, VK Vineeth notched up 87 runs before getting dismissed in the 40th over.
