Priyank Kharge said the state government follows a zero-tolerance approach towards vigilantism.

Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Friday stated that no one in the state is permitted to take the law into their own hands, saying, “No kind of vigilantism is allowed in the state.”
Addressing the Rising Bharat Summit, the Minister said, “No kind of vigilantism is allowed in the state…Nobody can take the law into their hands. Law is the same for everyone.”
Speaking during the session titled ‘How Karnataka is Building the Innovation Economy of Bharat?‘, Kharge highlighted that the state has increasingly integrated technology into policing and public administration. He said digital tools are being widely used in areas such as traffic management, cyber security and policing.
“We extensively use technology in traffic, cyber security and policing, etc.,” Kharge said, adding that the “Central government has appreciated our efforts in use of tech in governance.”
‘Karnataka Took Large-Scale Action Against Traffic Violations’
He also said the government had introduced an application to improve police monitoring, stating, “Now the app is being used to monitor the police presence.” Underlining the state’s road safety enforcement measures, Kharge said Karnataka had taken large-scale action against traffic violations. “Throughout the state, we collected over Rs 2,700 crores & registered more than 7.7 crore cases in traffic violation,” he said.
Priyank Kharge On Gig Workers
Kharge said the rise of 10-minute delivery services has contributed to traffic violations but stressed that gig workers alone should not be blamed. “In the era of 10-minute delivery, there are a lot of violations. We are now giving them four-hour lectures,” he said, adding, “Traffic violation is serious. We are trying to enforce… we can’t blame gig workers alone.”
On Bengaluru’s congestion, Kharge said the state has launched an Urban Mobility Mission to improve transport planning. “We are putting up an urban mobility mission,” he said, adding, “The next few months will ease traffic congestion.”
