New York Feels Like Home For Naomi Osaka As She Chases Another US Open Title

She said those victories naturally come to mind when she returns to the site, but she prefers to focus on the opportunity ahead rather than dwell on the past.

“I’m the type of person that likes to make new memories,” Osaka said in an interview shared by JioHotstar. “I’m just so excited for another opportunity to play the tournament again.”

Osaka also spoke about her friendship with Taylor Townsend, describing the American as someone whose outgoing personality has made life in the locker room easier.

“It is really nice. Obviously, she has an outgoing personality, so it makes my life a little bit easier,” Osaka said. “But I’m also trying to learn how to speak up more, especially in the locker room. I’m really shy and I don’t like bothering people. So, I never know if it’s all right to talk in certain situations. But I’ve been trying to get to know the girls more.”

The 28-year-old Japanese player said she feels good mentally and physically heading into the final Grand Slam of the season.

“I think mentally and physically I’m pretty good. I love this part of the year. I think we kind of just try to finish it with a bang. And for me, whether that’s like my outfits or my tennis, I just, you know, I, I just love it,” she said.

Osaka also acknowledged the strong support she receives from fans in New York. She said supporters regularly attend her practice sessions and create an atmosphere that makes the tournament feel like home.

“The crowd here is really special,” she said. “They come out to my practices and shout like it’s matches. So, I feel really honoured because it is like my home here, and I’m just grateful that the fans also know that, too.”

Osaka began her 2026 US Open campaign with a 7-6(6), 7-6(3) win over Anastasia Zakharova in the first round.
