New Apple CEO John Ternus says September 9 iPhone 18 Pro launch event will be phenomenal


John Ternus is Apple’s new CEOhaving taken over the reins from Tim Cook on September 1. On the first day as CEO, Ternus shared a message to employees at Cupertino. In particular, he hyped the upcoming September 9 Apple eventwhen we can expect to see the iPhone 18 Pro series break cover.

In the memo, obtained by Bloomberg, John Ternus expressed how much his new role meant to him. “I’m honored to be stepping into this role at what is truly the greatest company in the world,” he said. In particular, Ternus told employees that the company was about to have a phenomenal launch event on September 9. “We have a huge launch next week that’s going to be phenomenal. Thanks for everything you’ve all done to make it possible,” Ternus added.

While the Apple CEO did not explicitly mention what the company had in store for the event in the memo, you can expect to see the iPhone 18 Pro series being launched alongside a first-ever iPhone Fold. The September 9 event, which has the tagline “Surprise and Shine,” will also be the first Apple launch with Ternus as CEO.

Also on his first day as CEO, Ternus posted on X for the first time, joining Cook and Joswiak among Apple leaders active on the platform. In his first post, he simply wrote, “hello”.

John Ternus thanks Tim Cook for his Apple legacy

As Ternus took charge of Apple, he also appreciated the work done by Tim Cook, who led the company for 15 years. In the same memo, he said he had “deep appreciation” for Cook for sharing “so much of his knowledge and experience during this transition.”

“We’re so lucky to have had a CEO who led with his values and with such decency and humanity,” John Ternus added. Cook stays on at the company as executive chairman. Under his leadership, Apple grew its business globally, expanding product lines such as the iPhone and iPad, as well as growing services such as Apple Music and Apple TV.

In his farewell memo as Apple CEO, Tim Cook had praised Ternus, stating that he took “enormous comfort” in handing leadership to “someone as brilliant and wonderful and capable as John.”

John Ternus ended his memo by looking forward to everything Apple had in the pipeline for the future. “I’m just as excited about what lies beyond that, including the incredible products already in the works and the ones we haven’t even imagined yet that we’ll dream up and create together,” he said. “There’s no team in the world I’d rather build the future with.”

Ternus is a longtime Apple executive who joined the company in 2001. Before being appointed CEO, he served as the senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. As Apple CEO, John Ternus will receive a compensation package of about $58 million (roughly Rs 551 crore).
