During the elections in America, videos were spread on social media from India to influence voters. In these videos, common people were seen standing on the streets praising a candidate and giving their opinion on issues like inflation.
The videos were made as if people were supporting the candidate of their own free will. But they were being paid to post on social media. Ayush Jain, sitting in Mumbai, was earning around 15 dollars (1400 rupees) for every post.
According to two research groups that monitor social media posts spreading misinformation, most of the accounts posting these videos were being run from India.

This video was spread through foreign bots to influence the election for a Senate candidate in Michigan.
36 videos posted in support of Democrat candidate
The case comes before the Democratic Party chooses its candidate for the Michigan State Senate elections in August. At least 36 videos were posted on social media that received millions of views.
MP Haley Stevens was mostly praised in these videos posted on X, Facebook, Instagram and threads. In these, people were seen supporting Stevens by talking about issues like inflation and livelihood.
However, the identity of the people who made the videos has not been revealed and it is also not clear who invested the money behind them. According to reports, the campaign may be linked to a political group trying to propel Stevens to victory against his rival, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed.
But no evidence has emerged that Stevens’ election campaign or his supporting groups were involved in spreading these videos. El-Sayed won the election on 4 August.

Used to get 1 to 5 dollars for every 1000 views
- Those running the accounts that spread these videos were given 1 to 5 dollars for every 1000 views.
- That means, payment was made according to the number of people who saw the post.
- Those watching the videos were not told that money was being spent to make them reach more people.
- One of the Instagram accounts that spread the video was named ‘Energetic Humor’. It was run by Ayush Jain living in Mumbai.
- Jain told that for posting 40 posts on his different accounts, he got about 15 dollars for each post.
- According to him, there was a condition in the agreement to post the video for at least 30 days. Now these videos have been removed.

Pennsylvania company hired Ayush
A company named ‘Lumina Clippers’ of Pennsylvania state of America had hired Ayush Jain.
This company works to increase the reach of posts on social media through bot accounts. Bots are accounts that can be used to spread large amounts of posts and information.
The phone number of this company is of UAE and it is run by Rhys McKay, an Irish citizen living in Portugal. Mackey acknowledged that his company played a role in the spread of these Michigan videos.
For this, Ayush Jain and dozens of others like him were hired. However, he refused to tell who had given him this work and how much money was spent for it.
28 accounts took money and spread videos
This campaign was first detected by a group named ‘Antibot4Navalni’. The group identified 28 accounts on X that were posting videos for money. These posts were viewed more than 70 lakh times.
After this, researchers from Clemson University also discovered such accounts on Facebook, Instagram and threads. Some of these accounts had previously surfaced in campaigns run through bot networks linked to China.
According to researchers, these accounts usually posted videos related to cartoons and entertainment but suddenly started spreading political videos during the elections.
Political posts from these accounts continued even after the election of the Democratic Party’s Senate candidate. These also included posts supporting Steve Hilton, the Republican candidate for governor in California.
