Ingredients:
- 1 cup moong dal (soaked for 2 hours)
- 1 inch piece of ginger
- 2 green chillies
- 8-10 curry leaves
- 1 tsp cumin
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp gram flour
- 2 tbsp semolina
- ½ cup curd
- salt as per taste
- water as per need
- ¼ tsp baking soda
for topping
- finely chopped carrots
- finely chopped capsicum
- finely chopped onion
- a little oil
- Ingredients for Coconut Chutney
- ½ cup desiccated coconut
- a little tamarind pulp
- 1 green chilli
- 1 small piece ginger
- ½ tsp cumin
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 4-5 curry leaves
- salt as per taste
- water as per need
For tempering the chutney
- 1 tsp oil
- ½ tsp cumin
- ½ tsp mustard
- a pinch of asafoetida
- 1 dry red chilli
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 1 tsp chana dal
- some curry leaves
Method of making:
1. To make Moong Dal Uttapam, first put soaked Moong Dal in a mixer jar. Add ginger, green chilli, curry leaves, cumin, black pepper, gram flour, semolina, curd, salt and some water and grind it well. Now take out this prepared batter in a big bowl.
2. Add baking soda and some water to the batter and mix well. Now heat the tawa or pan and spread the batter on it. Add carrot, capsicum and onion topping on top.
3. After this, add some oil on the edges and bake on medium flame. When it becomes golden from one side, turn it and cook it well on the other side also.
4. Coconut chutney tastes very tasty with moong dal uttapam. To make it, add desiccated coconut, tamarind, green chilli, ginger, cumin, black pepper, curry leaves, salt and water in a mixer jar and grind it smooth. Take it out in a bowl.
5. Now heat oil in a small pan. Add cumin, mustard, asafoetida, dry red chilli, urad dal, gram dal and curry leaves and fry till it becomes light golden. Add the prepared tadka to the chutney and mix well.
6. Enjoy roasted moong dal uttapam with prepared coconut chutney.
