Mirabai Chanu leads India’s weightlifting squad for Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

India will bank on two-time Commonwealth Games champion Mirabai Chanu as the country’s weightlifting squad gears up for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, scheduled to begin on July 23.
A three-time Commonwealth Games medallist with two golds and a silver, Yours will contest the women’s 48kg event. Joining her in the women’s team are Bindyarani Devi (58kg) and Harjinder Kaur (69kg), who both clinched silver medals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022. The squad also includes Gyaneshwari Yadav (53kg), Sanjana (77kg) and Martina Devi (+86kg).
The men’s team will be led by Birmingham 2022 bronze medallist Lovepreet Singh in the +110kg category.
Commonwealth Games debutants Rishikanta Singh (60kg), Ajaya Babu (79kg) and Dilbag Singh (94kg) have also been named in the squad, alongside M Raja (65kg).
Weightlifting competitions at the Games are scheduled from July 26 to 30 at the SEC Armadillo.
Before arriving in Glasgow on July 23, the Indian contingent will head to Birmingham on Sunday for a conditioning camp.
India head into the Games with an impressive recent record in Commonwealth weightlifting, having topped the medal standings in both 2018 and 2022. The team returned with nine medals, including five gold, from the Gold Coast Games in 2018, before improving its overall tally to 10 medals, including three gold, at Birmingham in 2022.

Women: Mirabai Chanu (48kg), Gyaneshwari Yadav (53kg), Bindyarani Devi (58kg), Harjinder Kaur (69kg), Sanjana (77kg), Martina Devi (+86kg).
Men: Rishikanta Singh (60kg), M Raja (65kg), Ajaya Babu (79kg), Dilbag Singh (94kg), Lovepreet Singh (+110kg).
