Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended Mahalaya greetings, wishing the nation strength, joy, and health as devotees prepare to welcome Goddess Durga.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended heartfelt greetings to the nation on the occasion of Mahalaya, marking the beginning of the festive season leading up to Durga Puja.

Mahalaya is observed before the start of Durga Puja. In a message shared on X, he expressed hope that the divine blessings of Goddess Durga would bring unwavering strength, lasting joy, and wonderful health to all.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Wishing you all Shubho Mahalaya! As the sacred days of Durga Puja draw near, may our lives be filled with light and purpose. May the divine blessings of Maa Durga bring unwavering strength, lasting joy and wonderful health. (sic)”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also greeted the nation on the occasion of Mahalaya.

In his message on X, he stated, “Shubho Mahalaya! On the holy occasion of Mahalaya, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all. May the unbound affection of Maa Durga shower all the divine blessings of joy, strength, prosperity, and good health on every home.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also took to social media to wish the people. She wrote, “Awake Durga, awake, bearer of ten weapons. On the occasion of Tan, Agomoni, and Abahan, I my heartfelt Mahalaya greetings to all.”

Devotees across the country are preparing to welcome Goddess Durga with devotion and celebration.

Significance Of Mahalaya

Mahalaya, also known as Mahalaya Amavasya, carries profound cultural and spiritual importance, particularly among the Bengali community. It is a day devoted to remembrance and reverence, offering an opportunity to honor and express gratitude to one’s ancestors. The occasion marks a deep connection to ancestral heritage and traditions. Mahalaya also signifies the conclusion of Pitru Paksha, the 15-day period during which Hindus pay homage to their ancestors through prayers and rituals.
