Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed concern over threats reportedly targeting Kashmiri Pandits, urging the police and intelligence agencies to investigate the source of such warnings and ensure the community’s safety.
In a message, Abdullah said such threats should not have emerged in the first place and stressed that law enforcement agencies must take them seriously.
“It’s a matter of concern. Threats shouldn’t have come. Law and order, police, and intelligence agencies shouldn’t take it lightly and check the origin of these threats. It’s the responsibility of police to ensure their safety,” Abdullah said.
The Chief Minister also referred to an incident from around two years ago when Kashmiri Pandit employees were targeted, saying the government had faced difficulties at the time.
“2 years back pandit employees were targeted and we had to face issues,” he said.
Abdullah said the lieutenant governor’s administration was taking up matters concerning the community while calling for greater attention from law enforcement agencies.
“LG takes care of these matters but my suggestion to law and order agencies will be to look into it seriously,” he added.
His remarks come amid concerns over the safety of Kashmiri Pandits, particularly those who have returned to or continue to work in Jammu and Kashmir.
