LPG Cylinder Shortage Live: The raging war in West Asia involving Iran, Israel and the United States is now beginning to affect Indian kitchens and restaurants, as disruptions in LPG supply linked to the conflict hit cities and the hospitality sector.
The shortage is being reported in cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata, with restaurant associations saying supplies have become irregular over the past few days.
According to the Mumbai Hotels and Restaurants Association (AHRA), around 20% of hotels in the city have already closed temporarily due to the unavailability of cooking gas.
“If the situation continues like this, nearly half of Mumbai’s hotels could shut down in the coming days,” the association said.
The government has directed oil companies and refineries to boost LPG production to stabilise the supply.
