Investigator Probing IPS Puran Kumar’s Staff Officer Dies By Suicide, Calls Him ‘Corrupt’ | Exclusive

Investigating Officer Sandeep Lather, who was handling the Rohtak extortion case, died by suicide on Tuesday.

CNN News18 has exclusively accessed Lather’s suicide note and video, in which he levels explosive allegations against the staff officer of ADGP Puran Kumar, who allegedly shot himself dead in his residence on October 7.

In the video, Lather says the ADGP’s staff officer was “absolutely corrupt”. He claims the officer was deputing corrupt officials and transferring them on the basis of caste.

Lather alleges that “everyone was involved”, in what appears to be a reference to corruption in the police department. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.

The development marks another sensational episode for the Haryana Police, which have been under intense scrutiny since last week after the alleged suicide of Kumar, a 52-year-old 2001-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.

Haryana Director-General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur has been sent on leave, a fallout of the case. He was one of the eight senior IPS officers named in the suicide note allegedly written by Kumar.

In the eight-page note, Kumar accused the eight officers, including Kapur and former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, of harassment, discrimination, and maligning his image. Kumar also alleged instances of caste-based discrimination and professional isolation in his final message.
