The United States has deported Indian national Jashandeep Singh, who has a criminal record that includes a conviction for sexually motivated coercion involving force, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said.

According to DHS, Singh was deported to India on August 3. The agency said his criminal history also included burglary and theft. DHS included Singh in a recent roundup of foreign nationals removed from the United States following criminal convictions.

Singh, 27, was sentenced in Nevada in October 2024 to between 28 and 72 months in prison after pleading guilty to felony sexually motivated coercion involving force. The case stemmed from an August 6, 2023, incident at a mixed martial arts event in Stateline, according to the Record-Courier.

During his sentencing, Singh was described as a Punjabi man who had been living in the US with his wife and child. His lawyer had sought probation, citing a psycho-sexual evaluation that assessed him as posing a low risk of reoffending.

Singh had moved to the United States with his wife in 2020 and was working at a convenience store in South Lake Tahoe, the report said. An immigration hold had also been placed on him, with the possibility of deportation after his criminal proceedings.

DHS listed Singh alongside other foreign nationals removed from the US following criminal convictions. The agency’s announcement comes as the Trump administration continues its broader immigration enforcement drive, including increased efforts to remove migrants with criminal records.

DHS’s description of Singh as an “illegal alien” reflects the agency’s characterisation in its announcement. Earlier reporting on his Nevada case indicated that he had been in the US legally when the criminal case was being handled, so his immigration status should not be described more broadly without additional official documentation
