Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for a six-day visit to France and Slovakia on Saturday, where he will review progress on bilateral relationships with the top leadership of both countries. PM Modi will also attend the G7 Summit in Evian on June 16 and 17.
This would be PM Modi’s seventh visit to France since 2014 and comes after French President Emmanuel Macron visited India during the AI Impact Summit, where the two countries upgraded their ties to a Special Strategic Partnership. Modi will also become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Slovakia since its independence in 1993.
PM Modi asserted that France occupies a special position in India’s strategic vision. “When I meet President Macron in Nice, we will review the progress made since February, and chart the next steps in our cooperation. I look forward to our discussions on pressing global issues of mutual interest as well,” he said in a statement ahead of his departure.
“In Nice, I also eagerly look forward to inaugurating ‘Bharat Innovates’ along with President Macron on 14 June 2026. This landmark event, being held against the backdrop of the India-France Year of Innovation, will connect India’s most promising start-ups with global investment and serve as a major accelerator for innovations emerging from India’s higher education ecosystem,” he added.
‘India Will Give Voice To Global South’
The Prime Minister said he looked forward to holding discussions with his Slovakian counterpart Robert Fico and President Peter Pellegrini in Bratislava, and also to engaging with Slovak business leaders. He said the visit will further energise India’s strategic partnership with the European Union, of which Slovakia is an “important and valued member.”
He also said India would take part in the G7 Summit in Evian, France, on June 16 and 17. “This is the 8th consecutive G7 Summit to which India has been invited. At the G7, India will not only speak for itself, but it will also give voice to the aspirations of the Global South,” he said.
On the last day of his visit, Modi will attend VivaTech 2026, Europe’s biggest startup and tech event, alongside French President Macron. He will also hold an interaction with the Indian community in Paris.
