India’s Jadumani Singh and Preeti Pawar advanced to the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Games boxing competition with dominant victories on Sunday, while Aditya Pratap bowed out after a closely fought opening-round contest. Jadumani produced a commanding display to defeat Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman by unanimous 5-0 decision in a charged atmosphere at the SEC Centre, where chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “India, India” echoed around the arena before the bout.

The Army boxer showcased his superior technique, speed and ringcraft throughout the contest after settling into the opening round. Having assessed Rehman’s rhythm early, Jadumani took control with a series of crisp hooks and straight punches.
A powerful right hand in the second round forced the referee to administer a standing count to the Pakistani boxer, further underlining Jadumani’s dominance.
With victory all but secured, the Indian confidently controlled the final round from the centre of the ring, inviting Rehman to come forward before punishing him with sharp counters and quick movement.
Jadumani, who had dedicated his previous victory to the heroes of the Kargil War on Kargil Vijay Diwas, reiterated his goal after booking his place in the last eight.
“I want to dedicate this win to Kargil heroes. I want to defeat everyone and get gold for India,” he said.
The victory leaves Jadumani just one win away from assuring himself of a medal.
Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti Pawar also moved within one victory of a podium finish after registering a Referee Stop Contest (RSC) win over Malawi’s Deborah Mtenje in their women’s 54kg pre-quarterfinal.
Preeti, who claimed bronze at the 2022 Asian Games and won gold at the New Delhi World Cup last year, dominated from the outset and comfortably outboxed her opponent.
She earned the unanimous verdict from all five judges in the opening round before Mtenje was handed standing counts in each of the first two rounds. The referee eventually stopped the contest with 47 seconds remaining in the second round.
The result puts Preeti one win away from securing her maiden Commonwealth Games medal.
India’s third boxer in action, Aditya Pratap, exited the competition after suffering a narrow 2-3 defeat to Uganda’s Nuhu Batte in the opening round of the men’s 65kg category.
