The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode has recorded the highest-ever representation of women in the history of the IIM system, it said on Sunday. Of the 499 students admitted to the institute’s flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) batch of 2026–28, as many as 329 are women, taking female representation to nearly 66%.
A total of 599 students were admitted across the three full-time MBA programmes offered by the IIM. It also welcomed 99 doctoral scholars into its doctoral programmes in management.
According to the institute, it became the first IIM to cross the 50% women enrollment mark in its flagship PGP in 2013 (PGP-17) with 54% women students, surpassed the 50% mark again in 2021, raised the figure to 59% in 2024—the highest among the older IIMs—and has now established a new national benchmark with 66% women in the 2026 PGP batch.
Across its three full-time MBA programmes, women account for nearly 63% of the total intake, placing IIM Kozhikode among the most gender-diverse premier business schools globally.
The flagship PGP comprises 499 students, including 329 women (66%), while the seventh batch of the Post Graduate Programme in Liberal Studies and Management (PGP-LSM) has enrolled 51 students, with women making up an impressive 82% of the cohort.
The Post Graduate Programme in Finance (PGP-Fin) has admitted 49 students, with women constituting 12% of the batch. Together, the three programmes have inducted 599 MBA students this year, reflecting the Institute’s sustained focus on building diverse and inclusive classrooms, the IIM stated.
The Institute has also continued to strengthen academic diversity. In the flagship PGP, 57% of the incoming students come from non-engineering backgrounds, reinforcing IIM Kozhikode’s commitment to creating multidisciplinary learning environments. Non-engineers constitute 96% of the PGP-LSM cohort and 45% of the PGP-Fin batch, taking the overall share of non-engineering graduates across the three MBA programmes to 59%.
Further expanding its research ecosystem, IIM Kozhikode has inducted 99 doctoral scholars this year. Of these, 27 have joined the regular Doctoral Programme in Management (DPM), with women accounting for 66% of the cohort—the highest-ever female representation in a regular doctoral batch at the Institute. Another 72 scholars have enrolled in the Executive Doctoral Programme. The intake also includes the inaugural batch of the Doctoral Programme in Management (Teaching Track), the Institute’s newest doctoral initiative aimed at developing the next generation of management educators and researchers.
While addressing the incoming students, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, said, “The Class of 2028 marks a significant milestone for IIM Kozhikode and for management education in India. The highest-ever representation of women in the history of the IIM system reflects our long-standing belief that diversity and excellence go hand in hand. Beyond gender, we remain committed to building classrooms enriched by varied academic backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. The leaders of tomorrow will emerge from learning environments that celebrate neurodiversity, curiosity and collaboration.”
