After 42 years, India is hosting the 81st Annual General Meeting of International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Addressing the representatives of the International Aviation Sector at IATA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today (June 2) that this event is happening in India after four decades. A lot has changed in India in these four decades. Today’s India is more confident than ever before.
PM Modi said that India’s Aviation Sector is a prominent player in the Global Air Transport Industry. In the Global Aviation Ecosystem, we are not only a huge market, but also a symbol of policy leadership, innovation and intelligent development.

- Today India is the third largest domestic aviation market in the world. Our flight scheme’s success is a golden chapter of the Indian Civil Aviation.
- As of 2014 there were 74 operational airports in India. Today their number has increased to 162. Today, the handling capacity of our airports has reached 50 million passengers every year.
- India is today among the few countries of the world, which is setting new standers of users experience through technology.

IATA is happening in India after 40 years
After a long gap of 42 years, India is hosting the 81st Annual General Meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the World Air Transport Summit (WATS) in 2025. India last hosted IATA in 1983.
This global event will run from 1 June to 3 June in Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. The event includes more than 1,700 people including Global Aviation Industry Leaders, Government officials and International Media Representatives.
