US President Donald Trump lashed out at the Nobel Peace Prize committee after South African former UN human rights chief Navi Pillay was awarded the 2026 prize, claiming he deserved eight Nobel Peace Prizes for the conflicts he said he had resolved.

In a lengthy post on his social media platform Truth Social, Donald Trump criticised the decision to honour Navi Pillay, claimed that few people knew who she was and accused her of being hostile towards Israel. He also described the award as discredited and accused its selectors of being “radical ideologues”.

“In actuality, I should have won 8 Nobel Peace Prizes, not just 1,” Donald Trump wrote, listing eight conflicts he claimed to have settled, including those involving Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, Pakistan and India, Israel and Iran and Israel and Hamas.

Donald Trump also included the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Armenia and Azerbaijan on his list.

The US president claimed that letters had been sent to the Norwegian Nobel Committee by leaders of countries whose conflicts he said he had helped resolve. He added that he was close to resolving two more conflicts, involving Iran and Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“I’m about to settle, or win, two more, Iran and, Russia/Ukraine,” Donald Trump wrote, claiming that both were progressing at “breakneck speed”.

Donald Trump Calls Nobel Decision An ‘Indelible Stain’ On Norway

Donald Trump also criticised Norway over the award, saying the United States, represented by him, should have received the prize.

“The United States of America, represented by me, as your President, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t,” he wrote, calling the decision an “indelible stain” on Norway.

“The Nobel ‘Peace’ Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of Radical Ideologues who are Anti-Democracy, and Enemies of Civilization!” he wrote on Truth Social.

Navi Pillay, a South African jurist and former United Nations human rights chief, chaired the UN commission that concluded Israel had committed genocide in Gaza, a finding Israel has rejected.

Donald Trump also claimed that he had prevented Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and saved more lives than anyone in history. The US President also claimed credit for securing the return of Israeli hostages, including the final 28, both living and dead, and said he had worked with Hamas to achieve their release.

He further claimed to have removed Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from power and to be turning Venezuela into a prosperous democracy. He also said he was helping prevent potential conflicts involving North Korea, South Korea and Japan, as well as tensions between China and Taiwan.

Other claims in the post included increasing NATO countries’ defence spending commitments from 2% to 5% of GDP, securing the release of more than 900 political prisoners from several countries in Eastern Europe and bringing 196 hostages home from captivity around the world without paying ransom.

Donald Trump ended his Truth Social post by warning that Norway would not be forgotten for the Nobel decision, repeating his claim that the United States, under his leadership, had made unprecedented contributions to global peace.
