Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in at the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Central) office in New Delhi, seeking an FIR into the use of pellet guns against students during the recent Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in the National Capital.

Accompanied by a youth, Sahil Lochab, who allegedly suffered pellet-gun injuries during the July 20 Gen Z protest, Rahul earlier visited the Sansad Marg Police Station, seeking to have a case registered over the pellet-gun shooting.

However, sources told CNN-New18 that the Congress MP headed to meet the DCP Central after the police refused to register the case. He has made it clear that he would remain at the Police Station until a case is formally registered, they said.

The Congress has alleged that pellet guns were used by Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel during the July 20 ‘Sansad Chalo’ march over the May 3 NEET-UG paper leak controversy. Subsequently, cases of injuries caused to student protestors surfaced in following days.

The Delhi Police has, however, denied the use of pellet guns during the protests.

CJP Protests

The ‘Sansad Chalo‘ march was called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which spearheaded widespread protests over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy.

Although the protests began in late June, they reached a decisive turning point in July when the CJP called for the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march.

On July 20, coinciding with the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament,  thousands of students gathered at Jantar Mantar as they defied light showers and police barricades to march towards the Parliament in what eventually became the biggest street-protest in PM Narendra Modi’s third term.

The protests culminated with the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as the Union Education Minister, one of the key demands raised by the protesting students.
