Ankit Balyan Murder: Two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Balyan were killed in a police encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli. The encounter took place in the industrial area under the jurisdiction of Sadar Kotwali police station. Further details about the identities of the two suspects and the circumstances leading to the encounter are awaited.
Ankit Balyan was shot dead outside his gym in Shamli last week. CCTV footage of the incident that has since emerged showed at least four men firing multiple rounds at the singer before fleeing the spot. The 1:29-minute CCTV video shows Ankit Balyan walking out of his gym at around 6:45 pm, dressed in black and carrying a bag. He then walks towards his car, which was parked next to the gym.
Seconds later, four men approach him from the opposite side of the road and open fire. At least 16 rounds are heard being fired within about 25 seconds, after which the assailants flee the scene on two motorcycles, according to police.
Following the murder, a person identifying himself as Bholu Shahpuri from Haryana’s Sonipat claimed in a social media post that the Gogi gang was behind the killing. Police have begun examining the authenticity of the claim, officials said, adding that four teams have been sent to Haryana as part of the investigation.
Hours before his death, Ankit Balyan had also shared an Instagram video in which he was seen sitting in his car and singing lines from his song ‘Baby Badmash’, which was released last month. The video included the line, “Murder maar de sadak ke upar.”
A resident of Shamli, Ankit Balyan had more than five lakh followers on Instagram and over three lakh subscribers on YouTube. His popular songs included ‘Bhari Court Mein Goli Marenge’, ‘Body Builder’, ‘PTI’ and ‘Ek Khtola Jail Ke Bhitar’. His songs frequently featured themes of guns, fights, SUVs, violence and rivalry.
Ankit Balyan’s brother said that he had played state-level kabaddi until 2013-14 and participated in competitions in Delhi, Bhopal and other places. He later quit the sport after suffering a leg fracture and joined a gym. Around 2022, he began pursuing his interest in Haryanvi music. Over the years, he worked on more than 50 songs as a singer, lyricist and music composer.
