Nepal Flood News: The death toll from the catastrophic floods that struck the border region between Nepal and China has risen to 797, while more than 3,000 people remain missing as rescue teams continue searching for survivors.
Nepal said 2,502 people, including 592 foreigners, remain out of contact. The country reported an updated death toll of 781 on Sunday.
China’s state broadcaster CCTV said on Sunday that 546 people were missing and 16 had been killed. Of those missing in Tibet, 261 were foreign nationals, it said.
Meanwhile, Nepal authorities have decided to bury unidentified and unclaimed bodies recovered from the devastating flash floods. The move comes amid concerns over the deteriorating condition of the remains and the possible risk of infections.
Authorities are collecting DNA samples from each body before it is buried as part of efforts to enable identification at a later stage.
