The ongoing probe into Delhi’s Red Fort car blast and its links to the Faridabad module has revealed the deepening radicalisation of educated professionals, including doctors. Security agencies are closely examining the role of Dr Shaheen Saeed, a Lucknow-based doctor arrested in connection with a massive explosives haul in Haryana’s Faridabad.
Authorities claimed that she has been involved in setting up Jamaat-ul-Mominat, the women’s wing of Pakistan-based terror group ‘Jaish-e-Mohammed’ in India.
Meanwhile, her ex-husband, Dr Hayat Zafar, has said that Saeed held liberal views and wasn’t particularly religious.
While speaking to news agency ANI, Dr Zafar said that his marriage to Shaheen, originally from Lucknow, ended in 2012. “Ours was an arranged marriage. Since it ended, I have not had any contact with her,” he said.
He further said that Shaheen wanted the family, which includes two children, to settle in Australia or Europe.
“We were married and were living peacefully. We had two children. There was no problem of any kind… I had no information (that she had a connection with terrorists)… We were married 9 years ago. We got divorced because she wanted to go abroad. I told her that it is fine here because we have all our relatives here. We would face problems abroad as we would we away…” he said as quoted by the news agency.

When asked if he had ever suspected Shaheen of holding extremist views during their marriage, he said, “Absolutely not, never. We are liberal and educated people who have lived peacefully as members of society. There’s no shock value in what’s being discovered, as there’s no emotional connection anymore.”
Hayat further said that neither did he know about Shaheen’s whereabouts after she left Kanpur, nor about where she was or what she was doing currently. As per officials, after the divorce, she moved to Haryana and began teaching at Al-Falah University in Faridabad. Investigators suspect she may have come in contact with radical elements during this period.
Shaheen was associated with Al-Falah University in Faridabad and was closely linked to Dr Muzammil, a Kashmiri doctor who was also arrested over the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives and inflammable materials from his two rented rooms in Faridabad.
She was a critical figure in arranging funds and logistical support for the group, and her name has surfaced prominently in the ongoing investigation. She was reportedly associated with Dr Umar Nabi, who is believed to have been driving the car that exploded in central Delhi on Monday evening, killing 12 people.
Umar, a student of Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad, is suspected to have died in the blast.
Police sources said over 52 people, including faculty members, students, and the principal of the medical college, were interrogated in connection with the recovery of the explosives at the university.
On Tuesday, Shaheen’s father said he didn’t know that she could be involved in such activities.
Her father, Syed Ahmad Ansari, told news agency IANS that Shaheen has three siblings. “My eldest son, Shoaib, lives here with me. The second, Shaheen Syed, was arrested yesterday. She studied medicine in Allahabad. My younger son, Parvez Ansari, whose house was raided this morning, left the city long ago,” he said.
“I cannot believe that my daughter was involved in such activities,” he said.
As per sources, Shaheen was radicalised in a Jaish-e-Mohammed drive to set up a women’s brigade for psychological warfare in India. According to sources, Shaheen was overseeing women recruitments for Jaish in India.
Sources reveal that Shaheen made multiple visits to Jammu and Kashmir, and her movements are now under close examination. Investigators suspect she was not only aware of the planned attack but also played a role in funding it. The group is believed to have pooled Rs 35–40 lakh, much of it allegedly arranged through Shaheen’s networks.
