EPFO has once again extended the last date of activating the Universal Account Number (UAN) and linking the bank account to Aadhaar under the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme. Employee Provident Fund Organization has now extended its last date to 30 June 2025.
EPFO has recently issued a circular and informed about this. Earlier its last date was 31 May 2025. The purpose of this extension is to give additional time to the employees which have not yet been able to complete this process.
What is ELI or EDLI scheme?
The Employee Life Insurance (ELI) scheme is formally called Employees Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI). This is a life insurance protection for EPF members. Under the scheme, if the employee dies during the job, then his nominee is given a lump sum insurance. This insurance amount can be up to a maximum of ₹ 7 lakh. This benefit is available only to those employees who are active and linked to Aadhaar.

EPFO also informed about the increase in the deadline of UAN activation and Aadhaar linking on X.
Why is UAN activation necessary?
The first condition is to claim benefits like EPF or EDLI that the employee’s UAN is active and is associated with Aadhaar. The employee’s identity with EPFO from an active UAN is fully ensured and all related records remain correctly updated. This can not only take advantage of insurance, but also makes ease of pension (EPS), PF withdrawal and other claims.
Which people need to get UAN activation?
To avail all services of EPFO, UAN is required to be acquired. Especially those people who do not have a link to the Aadhaar UAN. Also, even if your employer has added you to the scheme, but UAN does not get activated, then you should still be active UAN.

The process of UAN Activation is online and easy. Employees can complete it in some simple steps by visiting EPFO’s member portal …
- Go to EPFO’s site- https://uniedportal-mm.epndia.gov.in.
- Click on the link ‘Activate UAN’.
- Fill UAN, name, DOB, Aadhaar number and mobile number.
- Verify from OTP on mobile.
- Set login credentials.
After the completion of the activation, employees can do work online like their PF balance, claim status and KYC update.
