Maharashtra, Jharkhand Election Results 2024 Live Updates: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti alliance is on course to retain power in Maharashtra, while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which leads the INDIA bloc in Jharkhand, is on track to secure a second consecutive term, as the votes cast during the assembly elections in the two states were counted on Saturday.
In Maharashtra, the Mahayuti coalition of the BJP, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party was leading in at least 230 seats, with the BJP itself having the upper hand on more than 130 seats. There are 288 seats in the assembly and the half way mark is 145. The Maha Vikas Aghadi, which comprises the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), is leading in just 53 seats.
In Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s JMM-led alliance appears set for another consecutive term as it was leading in at least 57 out of 81 assembly seats. The majority mark is 41. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance failed is leading in only 23 seats.
Besides, counting of votes for 15 assembly bypolls across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala, West Bengal and Uttarakhand are also underway.

Election Results 2024 LIVE: Priyanka Wins Wayanad Bypoll
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra won the Lok Sabha bypoll from Wayanad in Kerala by a record margin of 4,10,931 votes. After winning from both Wayanad, and Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh during the general elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had vacated the first seat. The party nominated his sister Priyanka, paving the way for her electoral debut.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also thanked the people of Jharkhand for supporting the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). “We will always be at the forefront of raising people’s issues and working for the state. I also congratulate the JMM-led alliance for their performance in the state,” he wrote on X.

As the BJP-led Mahayuti appeared set to sweep the Maharashtra elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the people of the state for the “historic mandate”. “Development wins. Heartfelt gratitude to my sisters and brothers of Maharashtra, especially the youth and the women of the state, for a historic mandate to the NDA. This affection and warmth is unparalleled. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is leading by over four lakh votes in the byelection to Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, told reporters: “I thank the people of Wayanad for giving me the honour to represent them. As per the latest trends, Shiv Sena(UBT) was leading in 18 seats, Congress in 13, and NCP(SP) in 6 seats. This means neither Shiv Sena(UBT) nor Congress will be in a position to stake claim over the Leader of Opposition post.
The Leader of the Opposition’s post cannot be bagged based on the combined strength of opposition parties, as per the rules.
This is likely to be the first time since the first Assembly came into existence in the state in 1960 that there will be no LoP.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that the people of the state showered the Mahayuti alliance with a lot of love this election. His comments came as the NDA is inching towards victory.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who is leading from the Baramati seat, said that all the “ladki bahins” (citing a government initiative) came together to support the Mahayuti government.
“We promise you we will keep our feet on the ground and work for the people. After the results, I called Devendra Fadnavis and told him that we have a lot of work to do,” he said.
Amruta Fadnavis, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ wife, said that Mahayuti winning the assembly election is “the best” for the state.
“I am very happy with the outcome. It is phenomenal. The hard work of the party, Devendra Fadnavis, and all the workers of the party has paid off…What has happened is best for the state,” she said.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s party JMM wins four seats in the state. The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) wins one seat.

As Mahayuti inched closer to a win in Maharashtra, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that there is no infighting over the Chief Ministerial position in the alliance.
“It will be decided after talks…Amit Shah had spoken about this. We will figured it out among ourselves,” he said.

JMM leader Mahua Majhi is trailing in the Ranchi assembly constituency.
Congress candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra extended her lead by over one lakh votes after two hours of counting of the ballots in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll in Kerala, according to the Election Commission.
According to EC figures at around 10.20 am, Priyanka received 1,65,487 votes with LDF’s Sathyan Mokeri at second with 56,929 and BJP’s Navya Haridas third with 31,018 votes.
The bypoll for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat was held on November 13.
Of the 16 candidates who contested, the main contenders are Priyanka, who is making her electoral debut, CPI(M)-led LDF’s Sathyan Mokeri, a political veteran, and BJP-headed NDA’s Navya Haridas.

After over two hours of counting, the Opposition INDIA bloc has taken a massive lead in over 50 seats. The NDA is now trailing with 28 seats.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was leading in the Barhait assembly constituency by a margin of 2,812 votes against BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom.
In 2019, Soren contested two seats — Barhait and Dumka — and won both by a margin of 25,740 votes and 13,188 votes respectively.
Later, he vacated Dumka seat from where his brother Basant Soren got elected in the bypoll. Soren had to resign as the CM shortly before his arrest on January 31 by the ED in a money laundering case.
