Delhi Building Collapse: Three people died, and several are still feared trapped after a PG building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan. According to sources cited by CNN-News18, the death toll in the Satya Niketan building collapse has risen to two, while around 20–25 people are still believed to be inside. All rescue teams remain engaged in the operation.
The sources said the building owner, Anand Bansal, is currently unavailable, and Delhi Police is trying to trace him. His phone is reportedly switched off, though police are hopeful of locating him soon.
An FIR is also expected to be registered shortly, the sources said.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also expressed concern over the incident and said teams from DDMA, NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence were working “on a war footing” to rescue those trapped.
Delhi authorities have mobilised multiple agencies as rescue teams continue to search through the debris. The building was being used as a PG accommodation for students. The adjoining building has also been evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, “Every possible effort is being made to safely rescue those trapped and provide immediate assistance to the affected families.” She added that the situation was being closely monitored and that the safety and well-being of citizens remained the government’s highest priority.
Meanwhile, according to Delhi Police, the collapsed building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan was a 40–50-year-old structure with a basement and five upper floors and was being used as a PG accommodation. Delhi Police said.
According to the police, repair work was underway in the basement when the building collapsed. So far, six people have been rescued and shifted to hospitals, while search and rescue operations are still continuing.
“From the local enquiry, it came to knowledge that this was a 40–50-year-old building, comprising a basement and five upper floors, and it was used as a PG accommodation. Delhi Minister Ashish Sood also reached out over the incident and said rescue and relief operations were underway. “We are closely monitoring the situation and have directed the concerned teams to take every necessary measure to ensure the safety of those at the site. The safety and well-being of our citizens remains our foremost priority,” he said.
Delhi leader Parvesh Sahib Singh said teams from NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, DDMA, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence were present at the site. “Right now, our focus is on saving lives and providing all possible help on the ground. The situation is being closely monitored,” he said.
Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi also visited the collapse site and said his immediate focus was on the rescue operation. “There are many shortcomings in the system, and I accept that. But right now, I request everyone to let the rescue operation continue first,” Wahi said.
