Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Rome as part of the fifth and final leg of his five-nation tour, on Wednesday shared images of his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The two leaders were seen sharing a car ride, visiting the iconic Colosseum and holding talks over dinner.

Taking to X, Modi shared the images and wrote, “Upon landing in Rome, had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni over dinner followed by a visit to the iconic Colosseum. We exchanged perspectives on a wide range of subjects. Looking forward to our talks today, where we will continue the conversation on how to boost the India-Italy friendship.”

The video of the two prime ministers sharing a car ride, taking a tour of the Colosseum in Italy, was also shared on the social media platform X.

‘Welcome To Rome, My Friend’: Meloni Welcomes PM Modi

Earlier in the day, Meloni extended a warm welcome to PM Modi on his arrival in Rome.

Posting a candid selfie with PM Modi on X, Meloni wrote, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!” The Italian prime minister also added two emoticons depicting the national flags of Italy and India.

Meloni shared a picture of the two leaders standing at Italy’s iconic Colosseum, the ancient Roman amphitheatre also referred to as the Flavian Amphitheatre, glowing against the night sky in the heart of Rome.

‘Melodi’: The Viral Moniker Born Out Of Modi-Meloni Camaraderie

During the G7 Summit, Meloni posted a selfie and a short video with PM Modi on social media, showing the two leaders smiling and waving at the camera. In the clip, Meloni could be heard saying, “Hello from the Melodi team.”

The term “Melodi” had earlier gone viral online following a bilateral meeting between the two leaders last year, with social media users combining their names into a popular hashtag. Sharing the post on X, Meloni wrote, “Hi friends, from #Melodi.”

PM Modi later responded to the post, saying, “Long live India-Italy friendship!”

In 2023, a selfie featuring PM Modi and Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the COP28 climate summit in Dubai had also gone viral across social media platforms.

Sharing the image at the time, Meloni wrote, “Good friends at COP28. #Melodi.”

PM Modi’s Italy Visit

As part of his Italy visit, the prime minister is set to hold talks with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, besides taking part in a range of diplomatic engagements before departing for India.

In a post on X, PM Modi said his visit to Italy would include meetings with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. He also announced plans to visit the headquarters of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), highlighting India’s continued focus on multilateral cooperation and global food security initiatives.

“I have landed in Rome, Italy. I will meet President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and hold discussions with them. This visit will focus on how to strengthen cooperation between India and Italy, with particular attention to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC),” PM Modi said.

The prime minister also expressed his happiness over the warm welcome he received from the Indian diaspora in Italy.

“I am very grateful to the Indian community in Italy for the warm welcome in Rome last evening. Their deep affection for India and commitment towards strengthening India-Italy ties are truly commendable. The Indian diaspora continues to make our nation proud across the world,” PM Modi said on X.

The visit comes at a time when India-Italy ties are witnessing growing momentum, with both countries pushing forward the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 aimed at deepening cooperation in key sectors.
