A fire broke out in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Maharashtra’s Amravati District Women’s Hospital at around 3:30 am on Monday. Three newborns died in the accident. Six children have been shifted to super-speciality hospital for better treatment.
According to initial information, the fire broke out after an explosion in a ventilator on the third floor of the hospital. After this the smoke spread. At that time 39 newborns were undergoing treatment in the NICU.
As soon as the fire broke out, the doctors, nurses and hospital staff on duty immediately evacuated many children to safety. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

3. Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh In February, a newborn girl died due to a fire in the warmer machine in the NICU of a private nursing home. Investigation revealed that the NICU did not have valid permission and the fire extinguisher had also expired.
4. Nagpur, Maharashtra In May, smoke and fire occurred due to electrical sparking in the SNCU of Daga Memorial Government Women’s Hospital. 10 newborns present there were taken out safely, 6 were shifted to another NICU. No one died.
