A six-year-old student who was allegedly murdered in Bihar’s Madhepura district after he witnessed an illicit relationship, police said after solving the case and arresting two accused.
The victim, son of Ramanand Yadav, was a UKG student and had been studying and staying at the school’s hostel for the past six months.
Addressing a press conference at Sadar police station on Wednesday, Traffic DSP Chetananand Jha said police received information on June 7 that a schoolboy had died under suspicious circumstances in the school hostel. Police immediately reached the spot, secured the scene and began an investigation. A forensic team was also called for scientific examination.
As the circumstances appeared suspicious during the preliminary inquiry, police registered an FIR at Murliganj police station on the basis of the statement of the victim’s mother, Gunjan Devi.
During the investigation, police arrested the accused Ankit Kumar, who allegedly made a startling confession during questioning. According to police, Ankit told investigators that he was involved in an illicit relationship with Anjali Kumari, the wife of hostel operator Sunil Kumar.
Police said that on the night of June 6, the child allegedly saw the two in a compromising position and started shouting. Acting on Anjali Kumari’s instructions, Ankit Kumar allegedly tried to silence the child by covering his mouth and nose. When he removed his hands after some time, the boy had fallen unconscious and died.
After the incident, the accused allegedly attempted to destroy evidence. Police said they first tried to conceal the body with the help of hostel operator Sunil Kumar. When that failed, they allegedly tried to portray the murder as a suicide by hanging the child’s body with a rope.
Police arrested Ankit Kumar and hostel operator Sunil Kumar. After completing legal formalities and questioning, police sent both accused to judicial custody.
The victim’s family had alleged that he was murdered, and his body was tied near the toilet to conceal the crime.
Earlier, some students had claimed that two unidentified men entered the school premises late at night and attacked the child before fleeing through the rear side of the campus. However, police investigation later concluded that the murder was linked to the accused’s attempt to hide their illicit relationship and subsequently cover up the crime.
