Bangladeshi National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman invited his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval to Bangladesh following a meeting between the two in New Delhi.

Rahman is in New Delhi as part of the seventh edition of the NSA-level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC).

“Bangladesh delegation to the Seventh NSA-level Meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC), led by the National Security Adviser, Dr Khalilur Rahman, met with the National Security Adviser of India, Mr Ajit Doval, and his team today in Delhi,” the Bangladeshi readout of the meeting said.

“They discussed work of CSC and key bilateral issues. Dr. Rahman invited Mr. Doval to visit Bangladesh at his convenience,” it further added.

The meeting comes at a time of strained India–Bangladesh ties following Sheikh Hasina’s ouster and death sentence. It is also the highest-level security engagement since the interim government led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus took charge in August 2024.

A key point of friction remains Bangladesh’s formal request that India extradite Sheikh Hasina, who was handed a death sentence by a Bangladeshi tribunal.

On Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs said India had taken note of the verdict delivered by Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal and reiterated that New Delhi remains committed to the best interests of the people of Bangladesh.
