Arsenal were crowned Premier League champions on Tuesday, securing their first league title in 22 years, after defending champions Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth.
City entered the match needing a victory to keep the title race alive but failed to take maximum points despite a late goal from Erling Haaland. The result confirmed Arsenal as champions before the final round of fixtures.
Managed by Mikel Arteta, the North London club has finally ended years of near misses after finishing runners-up in the previous three seasons. The title also ends the club’s six-year wait for major silverware and marks their first Premier League triumph since the famous “Invincibles” era in 2004.
The Gunners moved to the brink of the title on Monday with a narrow 1-0 victory over Burnley, a result that put them five points clear of Manchester City and left Guardiola’s side needing a win at Bournemouth to stay in contention.
City’s failure to deliver opened the door for celebrations in north London, as Arsenal finally completed their long pursuit of a league crown after years of rebuilding under Arteta.
