Mehli Mistry, who was close to Ratan Tata, has decided to part ways with Kolkata-based Tata Medical Center Trust. His tenure will end on September 30 and he has said that he will not hold the responsibility of this post again.
Mehli Mistry informed about this decision through an email on September 15. He asked the CEO of Tata Medical Center to register his decision to step down in the official records. Mistry has also sent this email to other trustees of the family including the new chairman of Tata Trusts, Noel Tata.
This hospital treats cancer at low cost
Tata Medical Center in Kolkata is a not-for-profit hospital with 436 beds. Cancer is treated here at very low and affordable cost.
Along with treatment, this center also works on early detection of cancer, preventing the spread of the disease, monitoring patients and taking care of them after treatment.
Also left the company handling investments of more than ₹1000 crore
The responsibility of the mechanic is gradually ending in the organizations associated with the Tata Group. Earlier, he had resigned from the post of director of ‘RNT Associates’ company.
This is the same company that manages the money invested in Ratan Tata’s personal investments like Ola Electric and Urban Company and has a total portfolio of more than ₹1,000 crore.
Before leaving RNT Associates, he had also left the posts of two other charity trusts linked to Ratan Tata. After the implementation of Ratan Tata’s will, when new people got the responsibility of these trusts, the management of this company was also handed over to the new trustees.
Mistry has already stepped down from the main Tata Trusts
Mehli Mistry has already stepped down from the two largest and main charity trusts of Tata Group, ‘Sir Dorabji Tata Trust’ and ‘Sir Ratan Tata Trust’ in October 2025.
Although, earlier there was talk of keeping him as trustee for life, but later he could not get approval for this post again.
During that time, Mistry had also approached the Charity Commissioner, so that his views could also be heard. Later he himself calmed down the matter and said that he did not want to drag Tata Trusts into any controversy, following the principles of Ratan Tata.
Currently associated with Tata Education and Development Trust
Even after withdrawing from the main trusts of Tata Group, Mistry is associated with ‘Tata Education and Development Trust’ under ‘Sir Ratan Tata Trust’. However, after his tenure ends on September 30, his role in Tata Medical Center Trust will also officially end.
