Air India has introduced a new ‘Basic’ fare category on select domestic routes. Under which passengers will get the option to travel at a lower price. Economy class tickets will not include free meals, although passengers will be given free tea or coffee.
The airline said in a statement that this fare has just been started on a trial basis, which has been designed keeping in mind those passengers who want to travel at low cost.
There will be a limit of 15 kg for luggage.
- Rules for carrying luggage have also been fixed for passengers choosing this new ‘Basic’ fare category of Air India.
- Passengers traveling under this category will be able to take check-in baggage up to 15 kg with them.
- Apart from this, they will be allowed to carry cabin baggage up to 7 kg inside the aircraft.
You will be able to book the food of your choice 24 hours in advance
Even though this basic fare does not include free food, passengers will have the option to purchase food. Passengers booking Basic fare can pre-purchase meals up to 24 hours before flight departure.
Passengers will also be given options of vegetarian, non-vegetarian, Jain and diabetic meals.
Refund or transfer facility in case of flight re-scheduling
Keeping in mind the convenience of passengers, Air India has also clarified the rules regarding refund and transfer of meals. According to the airline, if there is any change in the flight schedule or the passenger is shifted to another flight, the passenger’s previously purchased meal will be transferred to the new flight. If in any case food is not available, the passenger will be refunded his money.
Old airline fare options will also be available
- The airline has made it clear that even after the introduction of this new option, customers will still have the option of old fares.
- Passengers can continue to book the airline’s existing Value, Classic and Flex fare categories as before.
- In all these three old categories, passengers will continue to get the facility of free food i.e. complimentary meals as before.
Booking can be done through these mediums
Air India says that this basic fare is currently available only on select domestic routes. Passengers who want to book tickets under this fare can make their booking through Air India’s official website, mobile app, contact center and airport ticketing offices.
Decision will be taken after feedback
According to Air India, this entire exercise is for those passengers who prefer economical travel. The airline will closely assess the response and feedback received from customers during this pilot phase (trial).
Only after reviewing the experiences and customer feedback from this trial, the company will take a final decision on permanently implementing or expanding this basic fare service in future.
What is pilot phase or trial basis?
When a company launches its new service or product for a limited time in some selected places or routes before launching it on a large scale in the entire market, it is called a pilot phase or trial. Its main objective is to see the response of the customers and rectify the shortcomings.
