The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced several comprehensive changes aimed at making the Aadhaar update process simpler and more user friendly. Under the new system, cardholders will be able to update name, address, date of birth and mobile number directly through the MyAadhaar portal, provided their Aadhaar is linked to an existing mobile number.

For biometric updates like fingerprint, iris and photograph, one will still have to visit the Aadhaar Seva Kendra. However, after the addition of auto verification in the UIDAI government database, the manual process will be reduced, which will help in making corrections quickly and accurately. Other than this, Aadhar card The charge for updating has also been made free for one year. Let us know what has changed regarding Aadhaar from today.

What rules have changed in Aadhaar from today?

  • If mobile OTP verification is activated then there is no need to visit Aadhaar center to change name, address, date of birth or mobile number.
  • UIDAI will use existing government data to check the rules, which will reduce paperwork.
  • The cost of biometric update is ₹125 for most, but this charge has been made free for children in key age groups (5-7 and 15-17 years).
  • Updating name, address etc. separately costs ₹ 75, but if done along with biometric update, it is free.
  • Only document update through MyAadhaar portal is free till June 14, 2026. Its cost at one center is ₹75.

PAN-Aadhaar based deadline
UIDAI reiterated the need to link Aadhaar with PAN before December 31, 2025, and warned that failure to do so may lead to deactivation of PAN, service restrictions, and delay in KYC or refunds.

Aadhaar-PAN Link Process

  • The mobile number linked to Aadhaar should be active and OTP enabled.
  • Complete biometric updates if necessary.
  • Check PAN-Aadhaar link status before the deadline.
  • Use myAadhaar portal to track updates using URN (Update Request Number).
  • UIDAI said the changes are aimed at ‘streamlining citizen access’ and reducing reliance on physical infrastructure for routine Aadhaar maintenance.
