Government Girls Senior Secondary School, NIT-5, Faridabad, has been named among the top 10 finalists for the prestigious annual World’s Best School Prizes, organised in the UK. The awards recognise the vital role schools play in driving social progress.
Four Indian schools—from Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh—have been selected across different categories, as reported by the news agency PTI. They are also in contention for the Best School to Work programme, designed to help schools attract and retain the best teaching talent.
Winners across all five categories will be announced in October.
Haryana’s Education Minister, Mahipal Dhanda, described the Faridabad school’s selection as “inspirational” and a moment of pride for the state’s public education system. “This proves that government schools, too, can shine on a global stage,” he said on Thursday.
He added that this achievement would motivate other government schools in Haryana to focus on innovation and student welfare. The recognition is also expected to give further momentum to the state’s education reforms, such as smart classrooms, STEM labs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), and teacher training.
The World’s Best School Prizes were launched by T4 Education, a UK-based global platform, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The five award categories are:
-
Community Collaboration
-
Environmental Action
-
Innovation
-
Overcoming Adversity
-
Supporting Healthy Lives
T4 Education brings together a global network of more than 200,000 teachers from over 100 countries to drive positive change in education.
The Faridabad school has been shortlisted under the Supporting Healthy Lives category. It has been recognised for transforming the lives of at-risk girls by combining nutrition, physical well-being and mental health support with academic learning, helping to dismantle social barriers and ensure no girl is left behind.

The global winners will be revealed in October. Finalists and winners will be invited to the World Schools Summit in Abu Dhabi, scheduled for 15–16 November, where they will share insights, best practices and experiences with global education leaders and policymakers.
