The police have arrested 5 people, including the main three accused, in the case of gang rape of a minor in Bhayli area of Vadodara city in Gujarat on Friday night. To catch the accused, Vadodara Crime Branch analyzed more than 70 thousand footage of more than 1000 CCTV cameras.

All three accused are originally from Uttar Pradesh, who were living in Tandalja area of Vadodara for some years. The accused have been identified as Munna Abbas Banjara (27), Mumtaz alias Aftab Subedar Banjara (36) and Shahrukh Kismat Ali Banjara (26).

According to Vadodara SP Rohan Anand, after the gangrape incident, the accused had also taken the victim’s mobile phone with them. When the victim’s family called, the accused received the call but did not talk. During the call, the family members heard the sound of drums playing in Garba.
During this period the mobile remained on for 7 seconds. The location of the mobile was in Akota area. After this the accused switched off the phone and threw it away. Police also found broken glasses of one of the accused from the spot. After this the team checked the footage of Akota area and reached the accused.
5 friends had reached the spot, 2 returned, 3 raped

SP Rohan Anand told that a 16-year-old minor studying in class 11th was sitting with her friend on a deserted roadside in Bhayli area at 11.30 pm. Meanwhile, 5 youths approached them on two bikes. There were two people on one bike and three people on the other bike.
Three young men approached both of them and asked, what are you guys doing here? Both of them said- We are sitting here and talking. After this, the accused snatched the minor’s mobile and said – Give your father’s number. When both of them tried to take back the phone from the accused, all three caught their hands. On this, two other youths sitting on a bike said in Gujarati – Come on, let them go home… Saying this, both the youths left from there with their bikes.
But, of the remaining three youths, one held the minor’s friend and the other two gang-raped her. After this, the third accused also physically molested the victim and all three fled from the spot with the victim’s mobile. The victim informed the police about the incident through his friend’s mobile phone and lodged a complaint about the incident at the Taluka Police Station.

Five teams of district police were deployed to search for the accused involved in the incident. SP Rohan Anand said that this incident has no connection with Navratri Garba. The victim had left the house around 10.30 to 11.45. She met her friend at 11 pm in Lakshmipura area. After this, both of them were sitting on the deserted and dark road side of Bhayli area. The gangrape incident took place between 12 and 1 am at night.
The victim and his friend could not recognize the faces of the accused, but had given information about their talking style and body type. Among the accused, two Gujaratis and three accused of gangrape were talking in Hindi.
Liquor bottles were also found near the spot.
