A social media post alleging that a cockroach was found inside a chiller at Big Chill Cafe in Delhi’s Khan Market has drawn attention online, with the user sharing a video of the insect and identifying the outlet’s location.
A user on X shared a video showing what appears to be a cockroach inside a chiller at Big Chill Cafe in Khan Market, Delhi.
Sharing the video, the user wrote, “Cockroach inside chiller. Big Chill Cafe, Khan Market.”
The post specifically identified the location as Big Chill Cafe in Khan Market and alleged that the insect was found inside a chiller at the outlet.
The post comes at a time when food safety and hygiene checks at high-end establishments have brought several lapses to light.
The allegation made on social media had not, in the material provided, been independently established through a regulatory inspection or laboratory examination.
FSSAI Finds Serious Violations At Five-Star Hotels In Delhi
The social media allegation comes alongside recent inspections by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) at two five-star hotels in Delhi’s Aerocity.
FSSAI issued notices to JW Marriott and Andaz Delhi after inspections found multiple food safety and hygiene violations.
At JW Marriott, inspectors reported cockroaches and fruit flies, spoiled and fungal-affected food, unclean utensils and food-contact surfaces, improper food storage and risks of cross-contamination.
The regulator also reported fungal growth on apples, rotten tomatoes, uncovered food and improperly stored cut vegetables.
Deficiencies were noted in pest control, sanitation, allergen management, temperature control and segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.
At Andaz Delhi, inspectors found active cockroaches near freezers, houseflies, mosquitoes in a grinding room and spider webs.
FSSAI also reported finding a gutka packet inside the bottling plant area.
The inspection uncovered around 87 kilograms of expired sweets, along with an expired cake base and bread packets.
Inspectors also found duplicate date-marking on expired bread packaging, inadequate temperature monitoring and poor waste management.
Other Hygiene Lapses Flagged During Checks
FSSAI’s inspection at JW Marriott also covered several kitchens and food-preparation areas, including the Chinese, Indian, Italian and bakery kitchens.
The regulator reported pest infestation, non-operational exhaust systems, poor sanitation, defective storage containers and inappropriate storage of food products.

It also flagged licensing and labelling deficiencies, including food products such as paneer, khoya, chana masala and chilli being found without the requisite licence or appropriate endorsement available for verification.
At Andaz Delhi, inspectors reported structural and maintenance issues, inadequate supplier verification and receiving practices, improper allergen segregation and inadequate food-handler hygiene.
The regulator collected regulatory and surveillance samples from the hotels, including ghee, mayonnaise, coconut milk powder, honey, lentils, tomato sauce, marmalade and cookies.
Further action, according to PTI, will depend on laboratory test results.
Live Worm Found In Gurugram Restaurant Food
Another recent incident cited in the PTI reports involved a high-end restaurant in Gurugram.
A customer allegedly found a live white worm crawling inside the meat in a sandwich served at Paul restaurant at One Horizon Centre on Golf Course Road.
According to his account, he had eaten about half of the sandwich before noticing the worm.
The customer recorded the food and shared the video on Instagram.
The restaurant management later apologised to the customer, who shared a screenshot of the apology on social media.
