Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will undertake a three-day visit to India from July 1 to July 3 for the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Thursday.
The visit will mark Takaichi’s first official trip to India since assuming office as Japan’s prime minister. It also comes less than a year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to Tokyo in August 2025.
According to Japanese Ambassador to India Ono Keiichi, Takaichi is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on July 1 and will hold summit-level talks with Prime Minister Modi. The two leaders are also expected to participate in a major economic forum attended by business leaders from Japan and India.

Calling the visit a “new chapter in Japan-India relations”, the ambassador said the summit would provide an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
India and Japan share a longstanding strategic partnership spanning trade, investment, defence, infrastructure and technology. The annual summit mechanism serves as a key platform for reviewing bilateral ties and exploring new areas of cooperation.
