Investigators probing the murder of Ketan Agarwal are now examining whether his fiancée, Siya Goyal, was blackmailed by her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, to participate in the crime.
Police suspect Chetan may have used recordings of phone conversations and private chats to pressure Siya, allegedly threatening to expose their relationship to the influential Agarwal family if she backed out, NDTV reported, citing sources.
Officers are also studying digital evidence to determine whether he kept her involved in the conspiracy by using her alleged role in an earlier failed murder attempt as leverage.
New Twist In Ketan Agarwal Murder Case
The probe is further exploring whether what initially appeared to be a plan by the couple to run away together later evolved into a murder plotpossibly motivated by the wealth and social influence associated with the Agarwal family. Siya’s financial records are being scrutinised to establish whether money played a role.
Investigators are checking if Siya transferred funds to Chetan to cover expenses linked to surveillance, travel, clothing and preparations for repeated attempts to kill Ketan. They are also looking into claims that Chetan sought a substantial payment by threatening to reveal details of the failed May attempt, and whether Siya assured him of regular financial support or a larger payout after her planned marriage to Ketan was no longer an obstacle.
Police are tracing cash withdrawals allegedly made shortly before the June 18 killing to determine if they were used to meet Chetan’s immediate expenses.
Siya and Ketan had gotten engaged in February and were to get married in November, with their families reportedly booking a Jaipur palace for Rs 17 crore and arranging two private aircraft for guests.
How The Murder Was Unfolded
Investigators allege Siya first tried to kill Ketan on June 14 at Lohagad Fort, but he survived after grabbing a bush. She allegedly diverted attention by claiming she had spotted a snake and later persuaded him to revisit the fort, where she and Chetan allegedly pushed him into a gorge, killing him. Case documents suggest the duo had also devised a “plan C” if the attempt failed, the report mentioned.
Initially treated as an accidental fall, the case took a turn after investigators found Siya’s behaviour inconsistent with that of a grieving fiancée. Later, both Siya and Chetan were arrested as probe picked up pace. The duo confessed to committing the murder during the investigation. During a face-to-face interrogation on Thursday, each accused blamed the other for masterminding the murder.
