May 25: Police reached Abhishek Banerjee’s house in Kolkata, action taken after illegal construction notice
In the illegal construction case, a special team of Kolkata Police had reached ‘Santiniketan’, the house of TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Harish Mukherjee Road. The police took this action after the notice from Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
According to sources, an order has also been issued to demolish the illegal portion. In view of the notice, Kolkata Police went there and took stock of the situation. In response to the notice of Kolkata Municipality, Abhishek Banerjee had written a letter to the municipal officials on Sunday asking for 14 days’ time.
However, the administration has not yet given any reason. On the entire matter, Kolkata Mayor and TMC MLA Firhad Hakim said that he had no information about the notice.

On May 4, two days after the results of Bengal elections, the government had cut the security of Abhishek Banerjee. Police force was reduced from outside the residence on Harish Mukherjee Road. Besides, the barricading and security checking machines installed outside were also removed.
Bulldozer ran on TMC office
On May 14, the Municipal Corporation demolished a Trinamool Congress (TMC) office and a clock tower with a bulldozer. Local people had complained about it being illegal a long time ago.
The court had ordered its demolition in the year 2025 itself, but the authorities did not take any action then. The tower was inaugurated by former minister Arup Biswas, who recently lost the assembly elections.
It is alleged that TMC’s office and tower were built by occupying the playground. Earlier, on May 5, the next day after the election results, a TMC office was also demolished in the New Market area of Kolkata.
