- Afghanistan Squad India Tour | Rashid Out, Omerzai Returns; Match In Chandigarh

Rashid Khan played his last Test for Afghanistan in July 2025.
Afghanistan has announced the Test and ODI team for the India tour. Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah and all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai have returned to the team for the only Test match against India to be held in New Chandigarh from June 6. Whereas spinner Rashid Khan has been out of the Test team.
Hashmatullah Shahidi will captain
Atal and Omarzai have got a place in the 15-member Test team captained by Hashmatullah Shahidi. Both the players have played only one Test each so far, which they played against Zimbabwe in 2024. Experienced batsman Rahmat Shah has also returned to the team. He has played 11 of Afghanistan’s 12 Tests and missed the last Zimbabwe Test.
Hashmatullah Shahidi will captain both the Test and ODI teams.
Rashid Khan out
Head coach Richard Pybus recently advised Rashid Khan to prioritize long-term fitness. For this reason Rashid was once again not included in the Test team. In his absence, Qais Ahmed may be seen leading the spin attack. Along with him, Sharafuddin Ashraf and Nangeyalia Kharote will handle the spin department.
The only test will be held in New Chandigarh from June 6 to 10.
The only test match between India and Afghanistan will be played in New Chandigarh. After this, there will be a three-match ODI series between the two teams, which will start from June 14 in Dharamshala.
Fareed Malik returns to ODI team
The team selected for the three-match ODI series is largely similar to the squad which had clean swept Bangladesh last year. Left arm fast bowler Farid Malik has returned. He last played ODI in 2024.

Test Squad: Hashmatullah Shahidi (captain), Abdul Malik, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rahmanullah Zadran, Afsar Zazai, Ikram Alikhil, Azmatullah Omarzai, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Nangeyalia Kharote, Qays Ahmed, Bilal Sami, Zia Sharifi, Salim Safi.
ODI Squad: Hashmatullah Shahidi (captain), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli, Rahmat Shah, Ikram Alikhil, Mohammad Nabi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Nangeyalia Kharote, Allah Ghazanfar, Zia Ur Rehman, Farid Malik, Bilal Sami.
Ishaan’s return after 3 years
The Indian team was announced on 19 June. Ishan Kishan returned to the ODI team after 3 years. He played his last ODI on 11 October 2023 against Afghanistan in Delhi. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are also included in the team. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested from both the teams.
Four players including Prince Yadav were included in the Indian team for the first time. Prince has got a place in the ODI team and Manav Suthar has got a place in the Test team. Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey have been included in both the teams.
The ODI team includes Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan.

Test Team- Shubman Gill (Captain), KL Rahul (Vice Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudarshan, Rishabh Pant, Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey and Dhruv Jurel.
ODI Team- Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice Captain), KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey.
