Things escalated quickly for Kylian Mbappe.
One minute, he’s catching heat for a quiet cameo in the Madrid derby. And the next, he’s at the centre of a bizarre controversy that’s got France and Spain pointing fingers — and Real Madrid sweating.
From “Invisible” to Explosive
Mbappe’s substitute appearance against Atletico Madrid didn’t exactly wow anyone. Spanish media went after the Frenchman, calling him “invisible” and even claiming it was “like playing with nine men.”
But as it turns out, there may have been a bigger issue lurking beneath the surface.
A ‘Wrong Diagnosis’
According to French outlet RMC SportMbappe was far from happy with how his knee issue was handled in Madrid.
In the words of journalist Daniel Riolo, ” He received a wrong diagnosis in Madrid. He clearly didn’t like it and was even angry.”
The Wrong Knee?
Now here’s where things go from messy to downright wild.
Riolo claims that, behind the scenes, there’s talk of a massive mix-up — that Los Blancos examined the wrong knee.
The report suggests Madrid’s doctors checked the right knee, while the actual problem was in the left.
If true, that’s not just a slip-up. That’s a full-on horror show.
Paris To The Rescue
Unsurprisingly, Mbappe took matters into his own hands and flew to Paris for a second opinion — where those in charge weren’t impressed with the earlier work and instead prescribed a targeted strengthening plan, with no need for surgery.
Despite the noise, Mbappe didn’t go scorched-earth publicly and maintained his composure.
“My knee is doing well, I’m recovering fully. I was fortunate to find the correct diagnosis when I came to Paris.”
He also admitted the confusion had him rattled.
“I didn’t know why I was in pain… understanding that is the first step.”
Still, he couldn’t resist a subtle dig at the chatter:
“There’s been a lot of speculation and false claims… that’s the life of a top-level athlete.”
