China’s intelligence agency has reportedly issued a security advisory for its diplomats and citizens in Pakistan, warning of a potential surge in terror attacks targeting Chinese interests and installations in the country.

According to top intelligence sources, the advisory, issued by China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS), instructs Chinese diplomats and personnel in Islamabad and Karachi to exercise “maximum caution,” limit their movements, and strengthen on-ground security protocols. The alert follows credible inputs about possible terror plots by rogue outfits, including plans for suicide bombings aimed at military facilities and projects linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Sources reveal that the advisory has triggered alarm within Pakistan’s security establishment, as it reflects Beijing’s apparent distrust in Islamabad’s ability to safeguard Chinese nationals. Over the past few years, Chinese engineers and workers engaged in CPEC projects have frequently been targeted by militant groups, including the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and factions of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Indian intelligence sources told CNN-News18 that this latest advisory signals a “clear rift” between the Chinese leadership and Pakistan’s military establishment. “The Chinese are no longer in the loop as they once were. This directive is a clear indicator of Beijing’s growing frustration with Pakistan’s internal security lapses and its inability to rein in militant proxies,” sources said.

Intelligence assessments suggest that recent coordination between Baloch insurgent factions and the TTP may have occurred under “covert foreign encouragement” with the objective of undermining the CPEC corridor and embarrassing both Beijing and Islamabad. Such collaboration between insurgent groups — traditionally divided by ideology and geography — poses a new and complex challenge for Pakistan’s counterterrorism apparatus.

Agencies monitoring the situation believe that China’s decision to publicise its security concerns serves a dual purpose: protecting its nationals and exerting pressure on Pakistan’s army and intelligence services. “Beijing is using this advisory as a strategic lever to push Pakistan into launching a wider crackdown on anti-China networks before the next high-level visit or the formal rollout of CPEC Phase-II,” intelligence sources explained.
