Seven people suffered suffocation after a fire broke out at a building on Station Road in Mumbai’s Bandra West area on Saturday, officials said. The affected people were taken to a hospital and are reported to be stable.

The fire has been brought under control and doused by the Fire Department, according to ANI. The incident happened in the MK Chembur area in Bandra.

The fire broke out in the G+7 structure at M K Chembur, B Wing, on Station Road in Bandra West. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Mumbai Fire Brigade, the incident was reported at 10:23 am on Saturday and the blaze was extinguished by 10:49 am.

Seven people suffered suffocation in the incident and were taken to Bandra Bhabha Hospital, according to the hospital’s AMO. The affected people were identified as Gajala Javed Shaikh, 47, Javed Dildar Shaikh, 48, Tahera Ismail Shaikh, 28, Mohimuddin Javed Shaikh, 8, Ismail Akhinuddin Shaikh, 38, Mariha Javed Shaikh, 12, and Mehnoor Javed Shaikh, 20.

All seven are stable and receiving treatment on an outpatient basis.

Earlier, in Mumbai, a two-and-a-half-year-old child and a 23-year-old woman died after a major fire broke out on the 11th floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Vile Parle West on Tuesday night, officials said. Four others were also injured in the incident.

According to officials, the fire started at around 10:08 pm in Flat Nos. 1101 and 1102 on the 11th floor of a stilt-plus-11-storey building on Baptista Road. The blaze was limited to electrical wiring and installations, an air-conditioning unit and household items spread across an area of around 4,000 square feet.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade initially classified the blaze as a Level 1 fire before upgrading it to Level 2 at around 10:16 pm as firefighting and rescue operations continued.

Firefighters worked for nearly three hours to bring the blaze under control. The fire was finally extinguished at around 1 am, officials said.

Eight people were injured in the incident and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Two of the injured were admitted to Cooper Hospital, while six others were taken to Nanavati Hospital.
