The International Space Station (ISS), which has been functioning as humanity’s largest space laboratory for the last 25 years, about 400 kilometers above the Earth, has now reached its final stage. NASA has made public its plan to safely land it on Earth starting from 2028 to 2030. For this, NASA has prepared a plan of 1 billion dollars (about Rs 9500 crore).
ISS has completed its prescribed age. Its tenure has been extended several times. For the last few years, there have been continuous technical glitches in it. It costs billions of dollars to maintain the station. NASA now wants to focus its resources on Moon and Mars missions. Therefore, it has been decided to retire the ISS in an honorable and safe manner.

How will the space station end?
The ISS, weighing about 4.5 lakh kilograms, will not be allowed to fall towards the Earth just like that. The process of maintaining the station in orbit will be phased out around 2028. It will be pushed into the Earth’s atmosphere in a controlled manner with a special spacecraft. Most of the station will burn up and be destroyed by friction as it enters the atmosphere.
However, even after this, large pieces of space can fall on populated areas on Earth. Therefore, NASA has chosen a remote area of the Pacific Ocean so that the debris left after burning in the atmosphere falls in this desolate marine area.
According to NASA, the ISS will be crashed in the South Pacific Ocean area. The name of this place is Point Nemo. This site has been selected globally to dispose of old space stations, satellites and other special space waste.
There is a ban on any ship going around Point Nemo. There is no place for humans to live here. Since 1971, approximately 300 types of space debris have been dropped here. It consists mostly of American and Russian garbage.

Among these, Vost Company’s Haven-2, Axiom’s Space Station, and Blue Origin’s Orbit Reef are prominent. China has already established its space station in space. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is also working on a plan to set up its own space station by 2035.
