The nomination papers of Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan have been rejected, after which the politics of the state heated up. At 2 pm, a commotion started in the Returning Officer (RO) room of the Assembly. RO’s decision on Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination According to the Returning Officer, a private complaint was filed against Meenakshi Natarajan in the Telangana court. The court had issued summons on 17 September 2025 and ordered him to appear. The Returning Officer had three observations.. Final Judgment: The order said that submission of incomplete affidavit (Form 26) and concealment of material facts is proved. Therefore, the nomination was canceled under point 10(xiii) of Chapter 6 of the Handbook. Expert View: Why are questions being raised on the decision? According to former Principal Secretary Bhagwandev Israni, the decision to cancel the nomination cannot be considered completely correct as per the rules. He pointed out three legal complications on the basis of the handbook. What legal options does Congress have now? Option 1: Congress may seek review from the Election Commission saying it was only a personal complaint and not a formal FIR. Therefore, its mention in the affidavit was not mandatory. Option 2: Congress can challenge the RO order by filing a petition in the High Court. This is considered to be the most quick and practical legal option. Option 3: After the election and the results, Congress can challenge the results through an election petition, although this will be a lengthy process.
