After Union Home Minister Amit Shah, now more than 12 lakh employees of central agencies have also shifted to Zoho Mail platform. This step has been taken with the aim of dealing with the rapidly growing and constantly evolving cyber threats, developing digital hygiene among employees and strengthening data security.

Zoho is an Indian multinational technology company, which provides cloud based software and business tools services. It was founded in 1996 by Sridhar Vembu and Tony Thomas. Its headquarters is in Chennai. The company is providing 80 app services like Arttai Messenger, Zoho Mail in 160 countries.

Efforts started after AIIMS server was hacked The central government’s shifting to Zoho platforms is not happening suddenly. In fact, it took 3 years of intensive search and investigation. In fact, in 2022, hackers had captured 5 servers of AIIMS and more than 1.3 TB of data. The government suffered a lot due to this. This is where the need for an indigenous communication system was felt.

In 2023, the Union Information Ministry floated tenders to provide secure mail services. The tender was won by Joho Mail. After this, the National Informatics Center audited Zoho Mail on 20 confidential security parameters. Security agencies such as the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team conducted independent security audits of Zoho. After this Joho was trusted.

Indian company has created Zoho Mail

Zoho Mail is a completely email client from the Indian company Zoho Corporation. It was created by Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu. It is an ad-free platform that serves both personal and business users.

The company claims that end-to-end encryption keeps data secure and no information is shared with advertisers.

On this platform, users get separate tabs for personal, business and promotional emails, as well as features like calendar, notes and contacts.

Zoho also launches WhatsApp alternative

Recently Zoho launched its messaging app Arattai, after which the discussion about Indian technology intensified. Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has been continuously promoting his indigenous products. Arattai is a Tamil word, which means conversation. Apart from audio-video calls, this app also has the feature of quotes.

ZOHO has created not only Arratai but many other software and apps. Now ZOHO’s more than 50 cloud-based software is being used by more than 10 million people in more than 180 countries. It is being used extensively in sectors like email, accounting, CRM and HR management.

ZOHO Corporation started in 1996

In 1996, Vembu, along with his two brothers and friend Tony Thomas, started a software development company named ‘AdventNet’. This company used to provide network solutions. In the year 2009, the name of this company was changed to ‘ZOHO Corporation’.

In the same year, ZOHO started work on cloud-based SaaS (Software as a Service) model. Apart from this, it started providing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and other software solutions.

Gradually ZOHO became India’s leading software product company and an emerging leader in cloud. By the year 2016, more than 3000 employees started working in this company. ZOHO is among the leading SaaS companies in the world today and is completely bootstrapped, i.e. developed without external investment.

Left America and settled in a village in Tamil Nadu

Vembu was born in a middle-class Tamil Hindu family in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. Vembu started his career from Silicon Valley, California, USA. He worked as a wireless engineer at software company Qualcomm. While at Qualcomm, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and then lived in San Jose and Pleasanton.

In 2019, Vembu decided to leave America and settle in a small village in Tenakasi district of Tamil Nadu instead of Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru. He started running ZOHO from there. He believes that India’s villages can also become centers of technology and employment. Today ZOHO has many offices in small towns and rural areas.

Became the 39th richest person in India

According to Forbes in 2024, he is the 39th richest person in India, with a net worth estimated at around $5.85 billion. Vembu and his siblings together ranked 51st among the 100 richest people in India in the 2024 Forbes list.
