The film Homebound could not make it to the top 5 nomination list of the 98th Academy Awards i.e. Oscar 2026. However, when the film did not get a nomination, the team of Homebound took it as a proud moment rather than a disappointment. The film’s producer Karan Johar and director Neeraj Ghaywan remembered the entire journey of the film through social media and the journey that took it to the global stage.

As soon as the nominations were announced, Karan Johar expressed his feelings by sharing a post on Instagram. He shared some scenes of the film in the story and praised Neeraj Ghaywan’s vision, hard work and commitment.

Karan Johar wrote, “Feeling very proud!!! Neeraj Ghaywan, lots of love to you, thank you for letting us be a part of your light!”

Director Neeraj Ghaywan reshared Karan Johar’s Instagram story and thanked him wholeheartedly for the support he received throughout the journey of the film. He told that Karan Johar has been a strong support system for him in this journey.

Neeraj Ghaywan wrote, “Thank you Karan Johar! You have been a strong support for me. It would not have been possible to reach here without you. Love you.”

Let us tell you that Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, was India’s official entry for the Oscars. Vishal Jethwa and Ishaan Khattar have played important roles in the film. This film definitely reached the top 15 shortlist of Oscar, but could not be included in the top 5 nominated films. If this film had been selected, it would have been the first Indian film after Aamir Khan’s film Lagaan to be nominated in the International Feature Film category. The story of Homebound revolves around childhood friends Shoaib and Chandan. Both of them dream of joining the police force. This dream decides the direction of his life. The film shows friendship, responsibility and the pressures placed on today’s youth.

In Homebound, Ishaan Khattar played Shoaib, Vishal Jethwa played Chandan and Janhvi Kapoor played Sudha.

Homebound was released in theaters worldwide on September 26, 2025. At the same time, the film was released on Netflix on 21 November. It has received praise in many film festivals and award events.

Homebound had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. After this it was also shown at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film is inspired by journalist Basharat Peer’s article Taking Amrit Home, whose second title is A Friendship, A Pandemic and a Death Beside the Highway.
